General Guidelines

  • BYU Student Wellness expects all patrons to wear proper attire while participating in its athletic programs. In accordance with the CES Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations, the following dress accommodations have been made for athletic participation, as well as to ensure the health and safety of all participants:

    1. Patrons should wear proper attire applicable to the athletic activity.
    2. Shirts, shorts or pants, and appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.
    3. Undergarments and midriff should be covered with clothing.
    4. Clothing with belts and/or exposed metal (buttons, snaps, rivets, and/or zippers) are not permitted.

Additional standards for specific facilities, areas, and programs may apply. Student Wellness reserves the right to determine proper program attire.

If you are not dressed in proper athletic attire, our employees WILL ask you to leave or change clothes. We have the right to place a hold on the account and revoke facility use privileges of frequent offenders.

  • Student Wellness does not rent any equipment at this time for personal/student use.

The information desk (RB 112) occasionally sells volleyballs and basketballs for $20. You must ask the info desk attendant to know if we're currently selling.

Students in designated SWELL classes may check out equipment for their course. Speak with your SWELL Instructor to determine if you qualify. Equipment checkouts occur at the Central Supply Office, located in RB 145E (directly behind the Intramural Sports office suite).

BYU affiliates and community members may rent outdoor equipment from BYU Outdoors Unlimited (https://outdoors.byu.edu/).

  • Lost items may be temporarily taken to the RB Info Desk (RB 112) or the Custodial office (RB 155). All items are eventually taken to the WSC Lost and Found Office (WSC 1131).

Due to limited space and for health and hygiene reasons, we throw away all lost water bottles (yes, even expensive Hydro Flasks). Your best chance is to look for it where you lost it.

  • Follow this link for our most up-to-date building closure schedule.

  • No food or drink, other than water, is permitted in the student wellness areas (i.e. Weight Rooms, Pools, Gymnasiums, Tracks, Courts, Fields).

  • Subjects in a photo must sign a waiver before that photo can be used for promotional purposes.

Casual picture taking with friends, or for personal use is permitted as long as it's not disruptive to other patrons.

  • In all Student Wellness areas, Participants are expected to abide by the BYU Honor Code. Our staff are trained and have the authority to enforce it. Follow this link to read the honor code in its entirety.

The Honor Code requires all men to be clean shaven unless they have a university issued Beard Exemption Card. Student Wellness staff are trained to enforce this policy. Men who are asked to shave prior to participation may purchase a razor at the RB 112 info desk.

  • All users of the Student Wellness Facilities must fill out a waiver prior to participating in our activities. It outlines the inherent risks associated with using our facilities. Please follow this link to view and sign the official waiver. The waiver for minors can be found here.

Facility Use

  • ALL PATRONS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR BYU STUDENT WELLNESS ISSUED WRISTBANDS WHILE UTILIZING THE FACILITIES.

    • Current BYU affiliates (BYU students, faculty/staff, BYU retirees, and their dependents) are eligible to obtain wristbands. Come to the Info Desk in the Richards Building (RB 112) to fill out a waiver (view "Assumption of Risk" above) and receive a facility use wristband (view "Facility Use Wristband Eligibility" below).
    • EVERYONE is required to have a wristband. No exceptions. A wristband indicates that you have signed a liability waiver and are eligible to utilize the facilities.
    • The waiver renews the beginning of every Fall semester. Student wristbands must be obtained each semester. Faculty/Staff wristbands must be obtained on an annual basis beginning Fall semester.
    • Those ineligible for a wristband are subject to being removed from BYU property by BYU Police and receiving fines for trespassing and/or theft of services.

Full time students and faculty get the wristband for free (full time is considered 12+ credits in Fall and Winter and 6+ credits in Spring/Summer combined). Part-time students and faculty are able to purchase a wristband, which is $50 per semester ($25 for Summer term only).
    • Wristband eligibility is based off of the current semester. Continuing Day Students not enrolled in Spring/Summer credits are required to pay for a Spring/Summer wristband.
    • Guest passes may be purchased from the RB 112 info desk for $8 per day. Individuals can purchase a guest pass provided they have a current wristband holder as a sponsor. All guests must sign the facility use waiver (See Assumption of Risk above).
    • Dependents (spouses or children) are able to gain facility access if they are linked to a current wristband holder. Each dependent is required to fill out a waiver. Spouses receive a silicone student wristband, and children receive a paper wristband. Minors are limited to specific areas (area dependent age requirements) and must be accompanied by an adult.
    • The university discourages the presence of unescorted or unsupervised Minors on campus. Employees, volunteers, contractors, and students who bring a Minor relative, friend, or other guest on campus, including in campus facilities, are responsible for supervising the Minor at all times.
    • Silicon wristbands may be replaced twice, after which you must acquire daily wristbands for all future use.
      • Faculty/Staff band replacements are free the first time (2nd band) and $10 the second time (3rd band).
      • Student band replacements cost $50 each time.
    • Wristbands cannot be shared, loaned or refunded.

You may also purchase a guest pass online HERE, prior to obtaining your wristband.

Guest pass purchases are not a guarantee of court availability. Your BYU sponsor must make any necessary reservations.

Follow this link to view the Open Play schedule.

With the exception of the morning hours from 6:00 - 8:00 AM, open play is scheduled by sport in order to (a) accommodate the largest number of participants and their varying interests, (b) make set-up and take-down more consistent for facility staff, (c) allow participants to begin play right away, and (d) make open play more accessible for individuals who wish to play, but don’t yet have a large enough group of teammates.

    Rotation Rules
If players show up in excess, we expect the following rotation rules to be honored:

    • If you lose, rotate out and let the next team play.
    • Winners may stay for two games, maximum, before they must rotate out and allow the next team to play.
    • Teams who rotate out re-enter the que to return to play upon the next loss or double win.

We expect participants to self-regulate game rotation during open play. Alternate arrangements are permitted as long as they satisfy all parties who wish to participate. You may ask facility staff to intervene if rotation rules are not being honored (visit RB 145E or the RB 112 Info Desk).
